A cultural quarter is at the heart of Croydon Council’s vision of transforming the town into a Modern European City.
The iconic Fairfield Halls is undergoing a £30million facelift intended to make it a venue fit for the 21st century.
The entire venue – built in 1962 to a similar design to the Royal Festival Hall – is being refurbished with new bar areas, a rooftop seating and dining space and an art gallery, while outside will be landscaped with spaces for public arts, cafes and shops over the next two years.
It forms the heart of a £750million regeneration project which will also see a new purpose-built Croydon College at the heart of a vibrant arts and educational quarter.
Croydon also has a flourishing art scene, with the RISEgallery, opened by Kevin Zuchowski-Morrison in 2014, having hosted a Banksy ambition and led a street mural project throughout the town centre.
